Reassess the gap by inserting a gap gauge and then a trial bearing. Using the bearing extractor, the front of the bearing should be gently lifted. A bearing of correct size should lift 2 to 3 mm. Occasionally a thinner bearing is needed than had previously been selected due to gap closure from the cement mantle. Complete the reconstruction by snapping the chosen bearing into place (Fig. 7.34(a) and (b)).
